SCDP (CFSP) | FAQs

Are my goods applicable for SCDP (CFSP)?

Any non-controlled goods can be imported using SCDP. Even some controlled goods can, but they have higher standards that you must reach before you can enable its use.

Assuming that your goods qualify for the use of the Simplified Customs Declaration Process (SCDP), there is still some preparation required before you can make use of the procedure. You will need to authorise your broker to make the clearances on your behalf, and instruct all of your transport partners to contact them for clearance.

Customs Support makes SCDP setup really easy for you. We take care of all the paperwork and help you with your instructions to your freight partners. Contact us for more information.

What do I need to get started with SCDP (CFSP)?

The Simplified Customs Declaration Procedure (SCDP), previously known as CFSP, allows you to move your goods from the border without a full customs clearance or payment of duty and VAT.

For this reason, there are controls in place and criteria you must meet before you can use this procedure. And, not just any customs broker can use it.

Customs Support is a SCDP-authorised customs broker, and we pride ourselves on making customs easy for you. All you need to do is authorise us to act on your behalf, provide us with information on your products, and send your transport partners clear instructions on how to work with us – which we will help you write.

What documents do I need for the SCDP (CFSP) process?

The documents needed for your SCDP import clearance can vary depending on your commodity, but the following documents will be required:

  • Commercial invoice
  • Packing list
  • Transport document

In addition to these documents, you must also ensure the following information is on them or supplied separately:

  • 10-digit commodity code
  • Incoterm
  • Freight amount (if not included in the commercial invoice as per the Incoterm)
  • Transport information, including if the goods are inventory- or GVMS-linked.
  • Duty and VAT payment method(s).
  • Country of Origin, if this is not on the paperwork.

Further documents or information may be required depending on your commodity.

Customs Support provides SCDP clearance services throughout the UK, helping you to have all the documents and information in place so that you can move goods through the border with ease. Contact us for more information.

What are the benefits to using SCDP?

The Simplified Customs Declaration Procedure provides you with multiple benefits when used correctly:

  • Accelerated release of your shipments at the border
  • Suspension of duty and VAT payments, which can be extended when using in conjunction with a customs warehouse
  • Bulk entry of shipments into a customs warehouse
  • Improve your HMRC risk score as a trusted partner

If you are placing UK-originating goods into Northern Ireland, you may also have some additional benefits depending on your commodity and the purpose of import.
